Ying Zhang’s research interests focus on systems-level interdisciplinary problems in wireless sensor networks, Internet of Things, biomedical engineering, structural health monitoring, and intelligent monitoring and diagnostic systems. She likes integrating research and education to provide research opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students. She also enjoys nurturing future scholars who are capable of developing innovative multidisciplinary approaches, so that they can tackle real-world challenges.

Zhang’s ultimate goal for her research and teaching is to generate new ideas to solve real-world problems and to help students lay a solid foundation for their futures. “While engineers do need to focus on technical skills to succeed, it is not enough,” she said. “Communication, presentation, and leadership skills are just as important for a successful career. Students need to realize that these things are important, and they should be learned as you go through your years at Georgia Tech.”
